Cantori New York has been awarded an NEA grant for our Derrick Skye commission!
A rising star in classical music, Skye has been commissioned by ensembles including the LA Master Chorale, LA Chamber Orchestra, Dayton Philharmonic, and Albany Symphony. His work is notable for its unique, rhythmically driven approach and affinity for bridging diverse musical traditions.
The commissioned work Neither Separated, Nor Undone joins Skye’s ongoing series Anthems of a Crowd, which interweaves vocal techniques from South Africa, Ghana, India and Eastern Europe. Cantori will present the world premiere in fall 2022.

On this first day of Spring, we’re thrilled to release Cantori’s long-anticipated album The Elements — available now for purchase & streaming!
A Cantori commission, Lasser’s poignant cycle sets American anti-war poetry by e.e. cummings, Robert Frost and Ernest Hemingway. We presented its world premiere in 2018 in a special program honoring the centenary of the armistice that ended World War I.
Lasser is a professor at Juilliard, and he directs the EAMA-Nadia Boulanger Institute in Paris for composers, conductors, and chamber musicians. His prolific works have been commissioned and performed by ensembles around the world.
Written for choral ensemble and cello accompaniment, The Elements features cellists Ari Evan and Philip Sheegog. The album is Cantori New York’s 7th commercial recording (and the first since 2008).
